The Floating Maya Hotel

Another great find from BornRich:

Waterfront living is getting really popular among the luxury circles. We have earlier told you about Four Season’s ownership residence on yacht and floating luxury abodes to take you away from the urban congestion to the peaceful ocean. Now, another new development on that front is from Oceanic-Creations, a Swedish based company, which has unveiled plans to build floating commercial and residential buildings around the world with the help of a new composite material. The company’s first project is of this floating pyramid named the “Maya Hotel” is estimated to cost around $209 million and will be located south of Cancun, Mexico, on the Caribbean Sea. The floating buildings will feature built-in insulation that makes the constructions suitable for all types of climate, from the freezing cold to extreme heat. The company also plans to build floating offices, factories, casinos, student dorms & hotels in future. The Maya hotel is expected to open by 2010.

Not a bad idea at all. Hopefully someone starts making individual units along these lines soon.

Own Your Own Island Yacht

BornRich.org has a quick update about a new yacht concept that is currently being built:

Wallypower yachts are well known among luxury circles. We told you about Wallypower’s Wally Yacht, last year. And, now we have the latest concept from the Wally Yachts that will certainly blow your mind. The company is developing a 325-foot yacht with a giant deck area of 1,000 m2 to accommodate luxurious amenities and facilities including a deep water pool, a heli pad, mini soccer court, tennis court and garden oasis with trees! WallyIsland, as it is aptly called will be customizable, so you can actually design a boat of your own, just like you always wanted! Too good to be true..right! But, this is actually under development stages…so why don’t you go and make a boat of your own in the meanwhile, just like you used to do back in your childhood days!!

Fearless on the Water

The Porsche Design studio and Fearless have teamed up to design the Fearless 28. From the Fearless website:

"With it's chiseled exterior, sumptuous curves and seating for five, the high performance 28 is navigating new waters in intelligent design, uncompromising agility and outright velocity. A seamless deep-V hull, sleek stainless steel intake vents, and ample hoursepower cut an impressive wake-delivering the power to cruise at speeds upwards of 80 mph (70 knots). With your eye on the Livorsi analog instrumentation and hand on the Latham throttles, the 28 responds to your whims in open waters … while luxuries such as hand-fitted non-slip teak inlays and classically tailored 8.5" beam indulge your sense of style"

It's max power is listed as 550hp (410 kw) and it has an estimated range of 164 miles while running at an 40 mph. You can also add in a premium audio system with a iPod dock and XM satellite radio.

Sea Phantom

The Sea Phantom is a new concept water passenger prototype. The prototype can reach speeds of 80 Knots (100mph) on the water by "flying" just above the water on shock dampened 'foils'. This gives the boat  full-functioning suspension system, much like a Baja desert racer. The Phantom achieves this because of it's lifting-body airfoil design carries the craft above the sea surface in ground effect, radically reducing hydrodynamic drag. This overall design requires less power and uses a fraction of the fuel consumption of a normal high speed boat.

The design shown above holds five people, and the company has plans to scale up to a 18-24 passenger craft with projected speeds of 150 knots (173mph). While there are military applications for the craft, the company sees commercial use in the Gulf of Mexico, Coastal US routes, and island-to-island travel throughout the Caribbean and South Pacific Islands.

You can read more about the Phantom at the Maritime Flight Dynamics website HERE.
