James Bond Villain Inspired Watches

Swatch has come up with a series of watches inspired by various James Bond villains. There are 22 watches in all, one for each movie.

Some of the watches I get. The watch for villain Le Chiffre, from the most recent Casino Royale movie has a poker theme, with a "A" in place of the 12, a big spade on the watch face and then the different suits in place of other numbers.

Some of them, it just seems like they didn't really try all that hard. The one for Jaws, from The Spy Who Loved Me, is pretty much just a watch. I guess you could say that it's all metal and shiny like his teeth, but that's about it.

Even stranger, the watch for the movie Goldfinger is all gold. Ok, that part makes great sense, until you see that the villain that it's inspired by is Oddjob. The guy with the killer bowler hat. Not the actual bad guy named Goldfinger. Say what?

Regardless, some of the watches are decent, so they might be worth a look. You can check them all out at the Swatch site HERE

The Fossil Twist Watch

Normally the watches I post here cost anywhere from a nice car up to the price of a four bedroom hom. This one though caught my eye, and it's actually affordable.

The Fossil Twist Black Dial has a main face that tells you the minutes, and then three smaller ones that tell you the hour, seconds, and the date (though not the month). It also has two small windows where you can see the inner workings of the watch.

The bonus here is that the watch is only $115.00, which is pretty good for a quality watch. You can check it out over at the Fossil site HERE.

The James Bond DBS Watch

I'm not actually sure that the watch really has all that much to do with the James Bond movies, but since he's driven the DBS in the last and upcoming movie, and the fact that the watch has a gadget element to it, maybe everyone is just assuming. Though if I had the cash for a DBS, this watch would almost be a must.

Swiss watch maker Jaeger-LeCoultre has designed a watch for the owners of a Aston-Martin DBS, which controls access to the car. The AMVOX2 DBS Transponder watch is a fusion of traditional watch-making expertise and high-tech engineering. The chronograph integrates a transponder circuit into its case that will lock and unlock the luxury sports car, while maintaining the functions of its famous vertical-trigger mechanism. As a driver nears the car, all they need to do is press the OPEN touch sensitive control on the watch glass (between 8 and 9 o’clock) in order to activate the door opening system, and press the CLOSE control between 3 and 4 o’clock to close the vehicle. The TAG Heuer SLR Calibre S Laptimer

I don't put many watch posts up, but this one caught my eye. Here's the press release:

Introducing the TAG Heuer SLR Calibre S Laptimer 1/100th of a second Chronograph! The TAG Heuer SLR Calibre S Laptimer Chronograph (47mm) is the first SLR that is not a limited edition. An important new permanent entry in the TAG Heuer catalog, the Laptimer 1/100th also represents a new advancement in TAG Heuer's exclusive Calibre S movement. The revolutionary Calibre S has been further evolved to create a unique motor-racing inspired mechanism: combining1/100 th of a second "flyback" chronograph, memory and indication up to 20 laps, and direct access to best lap time, the new chronograph meets the highest expectations of the true racing aficionado. Like the revolutionary and Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix awarded Microtimer in 2003, it's not only an ultra-accurate wrist chronograph but also a timekeeping system on the wrist, this time with analog time indications display. Along with the Carrera Calibre 360 and the Link Calibre S, the SLR Calibre S Laptimer is TAG Heuer third 1/100th second analog chronograph, making TAG Heuer more than ever the master of ultimate precision in the field of luxury watches.

No word on price yet, but since it's not a limited edition, my guess is it won't be astronomical.

The Pirelli P Zero Watch

This is a pretty interesting watch, but I'm not sure about the band. The band is made of rubber, and was inspired by Pirelli's tire treads which means it might look good, but feel annoying. From the site:

Pirelli's sport watch is every athlete's dream. With its jet black rubber band echoing Pirelli's famous tire tread marks, chronograph feature, and two-tone gray, futuristic titanium and steel face, you'll be fashionably on time for any occasion. Swiss Made, Italian Design

You can see better pictures of, and also buy, the watch at the Forzieri site HERE. The watch will cost you $895.00.

The Seiko Space Watch

When Richard Garriott, a video game designer and the son of a NASA astronaut, becomes the sixth private-citizen to go into space, he'll be wearing a very special watch. The Seiko Spring Drive Spacewalk watch has been created to withstand the extreme environment of outer space and will be worn outside Garriott's space suit, when he becomes the first private citizen to do a space walk.

To survive zero gravity and the cold of space, the watch uses a spring drive over a battery, was designed to be light with recesses on the sides of the case to save weight, a dial with a Lumibrite treatment for readability and an air tight and made of high-intensity titanium.

Even if you're not going into space anytime soon, you can still get one of the 100 available in this limited edition this October. It will cost you though, as the watch is set to sell for $25,000.

Cornelius & Cie Watches

Paul Pertijss and Kees Engelbarts have created a new high-end watch brand, Cornelius & Cie, based out of Geneva, Switzerland. The first collection will be 12 Chronosome 46XY watches. This model uses a 1935 A. Schild movement with eccentrically placed barrel. There will be a total of three models in the beginning: The first has a completely skeletonized movement and dial, the second has a partly skeletonized movement and closed dial and the third has a Côtes de Genève decoration. Each watch will be sold with an Orbita watch winder and an extra barrel which can be engraved with a personal text or picture. The watches will be available in April and prices start at around 56,600 dollars up to 181,000 dollars for the fully skeletonized version.
