From the press release:
Virgin Galactic today unveiled the design of its new, environmentally benign, space launch system based on the X Prize winning technology of SpaceShipOne, which successfully flew into space for the third time in October 2004 and won the $10m Ansari X Prize.
The construction of the White Knight Two (WK2) mothership, or carrier aircraft, is now very close to completion at Scaled Composites in Mojave, CA and is expected to begin flight testing in the summer of 2008. It is the world’s largest, all carbon composite aircraft; it has a unique high altitude lift capacity, capable of launching SpaceShipTwo and its eight astronauts into sub-orbital space flight.
Whilst the two vehicles comprising the space launch system have been under construction, Virgin Galactic’s cadre of future astronauts has continued to grow strongly to well in excess of 200 individuals with around 85,000 registrations of interest to fly. The deposit base now exceeds $30m representing more than $45m of future income to the fledgling spaceline.
Virgin Galactic will make further announcements regarding the progress of the launch system, development of its markets, the test flying program and start of commercial operations at Spaceport America in due course.

Coming from the "I wish I had thought of that first" category, is a unique way to keep your drink cold. A company called Sippin on the Rocks is selling highly polished cubes made from imported granite directly from quarries in Scotland. Here's the explanation from the web site:
"Sippin on the Rocks offers the perfect solution to the problem of having your Scotch or favorite drink diluted with melting ice. These highly polished granite cubes are simply placed in your freezer and then are used to cool your drink. We are not trying to replace ice, simply allowing the Scotch drinker a chance to enjoy a different aspect of their favorite drink. Even the most demanding conniseur will appreciate putting a little bit of Scotland back into their Scotch!"
The cubes are also supposed to enhance the aroma and flavor of the liquor. You can buy the cubes in a walnut wood gift box, which comes with 2 hand polished granite cubes, and 2 beautiful crystal sippin glasses, for $75 at their site HERE.

The 40-foot tall, 30 ton monster known for crushing cars at events and even staring in a recent Toyota commercial is going up for auction.
It's claim to fame is picking up two ton cars, setting them on fire with a 20 flame, and then crushing and tearing them apart with 24,000 pounds of force. The monster is run by a pilot who sits in a cockpit inside the dinosaur’s head. It can now be yours, since it's set to be auctioned off during the annual Barrett-Jackson car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona between January 12 and January 20.
You can see pictures and video of the monster in action, read about it's history and other details about the machine at their site HERE. The site makes some noise, so if you're in the office, you might want to turn the sound down.

Owning your own island is pretty much only for the seriously rich, and Ronde Island in Grenada might be only for the top of that group. The island is over 2,000 acres in size, and will be the largest private island located in an area of the Caribbean that's growinging in popularity. It's completely undeveloped, which will allow it's future owner to step in and do whatever they would like with it. It does also have some charm that would make it a nice vacationing spot, such as sea-bottom drop-offs over ‘bottomless’ vertical walls, coral-encrusted canyons and even a swim-through cave which opens to an underground cavern decorated with stalactites and quartz crystals.
The location is currently listed by Private Islands Inc. for $100 million dollars, which is the highest price tag of any island on the international real estate market. You can head over to their site HERE for more information on Ronde Island and other sites.

This might be one of the more unusual gifts that I've heard of.
Vik Muniz is reknown for crafting internationally famous art out of literally anything: caviar, dirt, diamonds, and even toys. For a mere $110,000, artist Muniz will paint a His and Hers portrait for you in a double helping of Bosco® chocolate syrup. The painting will be a framed 60" x 48" museum-quality photographic work of art, and of course a limited edition of one. If you think that might be a bit steep, at least it's for a good cause. Muniz will be donating his proceeds to Centro Espacial Rio de Janeiro, the charity he created to bring social and art projects to life for underprivileged young people in Brazil.
You can head over to the Neiman Marcus Christmas Catalog HERE if you're really interested.

Not only are the Dragon steel sculptures impressive on their own, they are also fully functioning barbeques.
Artist Ed McBride has created two welded steel dragon barbecues, with a third in the works. The first in the series was sold for $65,000 at the Safari Club International 33rd Annual Hunters' Convention. The second in the series is currently up for sale at $90,000 and will be the biggest of the three.
The second barbecue in this series will be a towering 9 feet in height with a 10 feet wide wingspan. A theatrical touch was added in that propane powered flames will erupt from between the dragon's teeth. Also, a small dragon is used to heat a dutch cooking oven with its "dragon breath." It's first, and maybe only, showing will be at the SCI convention in Reno, Nevada in January
The third in the series will be the smallest of the three, costing $40,000. It will be 6 feet in height and length, and is scheduled to be completed in late 2007.
You can read more about the sculptures and see what other things Ed McBride has created, at his website HERE.
