The Merium Home Entertainment PC

I've been interested in getting something like this for a while, since I think it would be great to use the PC on the big TV, without having to get up and go into the computer room to look something up. This just might fit the bill. From the web site:

Ever wanted to combine the following; media entertainment, a safe place for your valuable digital content and a piece of great looking furniture? Mesiro, an innovative provider of digital media solutions with outstanding Scandinavian design, is now launching one combined solution addressing it all – The Mesiro Merium.

The Mesiro Merium meets consumer needs for a digital all-in-one solution that offers a user friendly way to enjoy and experience media at home. This innovative Home Entertainment PC enables you to take full advantage of the Internet in your living room, as well as enjoying your music, photos or camera recordings on your flat screen TV. The Merium is always ready to display entertaining media just one click away.

The technical specs on this isn't bad, though the video card isn't the greatest. The system costs $999 which is also a little pricey.

You can read more about the Merium at their website HERE.

Burn Notice

This is a little out of the ordinary for the site, but it's sounds like this new series might be fun. Plus, you really can't go wrong when you have Bruce Campbell in anything.

Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) has spent most of his life working as a spy. That was, until yesterday. You see, when a spy gets fired, he doesn't get a call from the lady in HR and a handshake. They burn him, cut him off, and make sure he can never work again. Bottom line, they froze his bank accounts, erased his security clearance, and left him out in the cold…in sunny Miami, the hometown of crime, drugs, plantains and thongs. Now, he's just trying to make a living while he figures out who wants him dead.

Michael is joined by Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) an ex-IRA operative, who also happens to be an ex-girlfriend; and Sam (Bruce Campbell), a washed-out military intelligence contact who's being used by the feds to keep tabs on Michael. He's also forced to confront the family he went halfway around the world to get away from - particularly his mother, Madeline (Sharon Gless) who couldn't be happier to have her son back in town.

Burn Notice premieres June 28th, with new episodes Thursdays at 10/9c on USA Network.

Last Man Standing

BBC Television and The Discovery Channel are looking for people to be part of a new reality show called Last Man Standing. I'm not usually a fan of reality shows, but this one sounds interesting. Here's the press release:

Sporting activities have been part of human life for millennia. This ground breaking BBC series is a celebration of traditional sports. It will explore the incredible cultural richness of indigenous sporting events and festivals around the world.

Last Man Standing will look at the indigenous sports of eight very different communities, from the Arctic to the Amazon, from Africa to Asia, to uncover some of the toughest events on the planet, and provide an insight into the ancient history and culture of some of the world's most remote areas and the people who live there.

To really learn about each particular sport, six athletes from the UK and USA will spend a week immersed in the sport and culture. The athletes will eat and sleep with the community and live as they do.

They will train with them and learn rare insights into the sport and the way of life. At the end of the week, they will take part in the activity and play by local rules.

The series will explore the cultural and religious significance of each sport with sensitivity and respect. With the help of local guides and mentors, the athletes will also learn about the history and relevance of each sport.

It will, through showing features and emotions common to people the world over, promote understanding and respect for different ways of life. These sporting events, although firmly rooted in each specific culture, will also highlight how much very different peoples of the world have in common.

This landmark series will show some of the most unusual, colourful sporting events in a variety of countries, and will provide an entertaining and fresh insight into some of the richest cultures in the world.

The show has already wrapped up shooting it's first season, scheduled to air mid 2007, and they're looking for people to sign up for season two. If you think you might have what it takes to join the show, you can get in touch with the them by sending an email to LastManStandingCasting@gmail.com.

Wealth Television

Although major networks are showing more and more shows in HD, outside of the 8:00 - 11:00 time frame, there's not a whole lot to watch.

That is slowly beginning to change however, with new HD centric channels. Since 2001, Voom HD, Mojo, and HDNet have begun broadcasting a total of 12 channels of original programming, each with a full slate of shows in high definition. mostly geared toward younger males, who are more likely to have an HD TV.

HDNet has shows such as Bikini Destinations, a travel show with bikini wearing women in exotic parts of the world; Get Out! with the same set up, just in large cities around the world; and Geek to Freak, with Dennis Rodman. You can also catch Dan Rather Reportsfor something a little more intellectual. The network also airs a number of interview and concert shows.

Some of Voom’s shows try to make the most of HD’s potential. An example is the GalleryHD channel, which can use HD to show off the amazing paintings in their shows.

The biggest of the HD networks though is Mojo. The network targets men ages 25 to 49 who earn more than $100,000 a year, with shows like Beer Nutz, about American beer; Three Sheets, which looks at drinking in other countries; and Uncorked, all about wine. Other shows are more along the lines of I Bet You, where two poker players bet on everything and anything.

The stations have a monthly fee, and you of course need an HD TV to really get anything out of them, which is why the shows are geared more toward men. How long these stations stay around as HD becomes more and more popular is unknown, but as the first in the door, they may become some of the large players in the HD market of the future.

You can head over to Portfolio to read more about the stations, and what they have to offer, HERE.

Watch TV in the Tub

LuxuryLaunches has a great post about a bathtub complete with an LCD and DVD player. Here's the post:

A certain study states that an average adult spends approximately 5,475 minutes, or 91.25 hours, bathing every year. Why not make it a more comfortable and relaxing experience by treating yourself to luxurious bathtub with all the bells and whistles? Recently at the Kyung Hyang housing fair in Korea, Bazen AT-956TV Bathtub with all the frills has been on display. The ultimate in massage bathtubs provides plenty of room for two to enjoy the mini Jacuzzi. It comes with a digital thermostat that allows you to set the temperature to your comfort. The highlight of this product is that it is equipped with a LCD screen, DVD player and a TV tuner, which means you can watch anything from your favorite movie, soaps or news while soaking away stress and aches in the comfort of your own bathroom.

Sharp and the R Series

Sharp has announced its new R Series of high-end, 120Hz refresh rate, 1080p LCDs that have what Sharp is calling their "Double-Speed Advanced Super View".

The largest of the series is the 65-inch that is set to hit the shelves on March 10th, but unfortunately only in Japan at the moment. They will also have 42, 46, 52 and 57-inch screens, and all of them in the series have the same specs as the 65-inch. The sets also include analog and digital tuners, 3000:1 contrast ratio, 450 cd/m2 brightness, a 3ms response time, and a 10/100 Ethernet port. No word yet when the LCDs will hit the U.S., or what pricing will be, but it shouldn't be too long before they start showing up at your local retailer.

Lose, and you walk home

One of SpeedTV's most popular shows is Pinks. The idea is simple, two contestants race their cars in a best three out of five drag race. The loser of the races hands over the title of their car (the pink slip) to the winner.

You can read more about the show, check out some video, and read about the match-ups at the SpeedTV.com site HERE.
