The US Poker League has created The Poker Bowl, which will be a competition between 25 cities consisting of 6 players each. Poker Bowl I will be held in Las Vegas on October 20th-23rd, with a $1 million dollar prize pool. Players have been recruited to join the 25 City teams, and currently one of the biggest name teams is the "Denver High Rollers". The Rollers consist of Chad Brown, Vanessa Rousso, Paul Wasicka, Todd Brunson, and Doyle Brunson.
You'll be able to watch the Poker Bowl on Fox Sports in early 2008, as 7 one-hour episode. The format will start out with five 6-player teams on three original tables consisting of 10 players each. At this point it's a normal tournament, except that it's a team sport, so you need to play with your teammates, and against all the other teams. The winning team will be the last team standing by eliminating the members of all the other teams.
Some rules have been put in place to make the team format a little more interesting. Such as " If only teammates are in the hand to end they must both show and the pot will go to the better hand." amd "Teammates can't surrender a hand if they have their teammate covered".
Might be interesting to watch and see if there's any good team strategy that develops. You can read more about the Poker Bowl, and see whose on what team, and what conference their in, at the US Poker League Poker Bowl site HERE.

Last week or so I had posted about Paul's blog post over at Bluff Magazine (you can read it HERE). Well, Paul Wasicka himself (or one of his people, but for personal ego reasons, I'm sticking with Paul himself) stopped by, said hello, and mentioned that he now has his own blog up.
The site has the usual news, where he'll be, and photos. The best part is the blog, which is pretty well written, and gives some nice insight to the tournaments, other players, some of the hands he plays, and other things. Worth looking at if your a poker player, or even just a fan of the game.
You can head over to his site HERE.

Norwegian Annette Obrestad became the youngest bracelet winner in World Series of Poker history by winning the main event at the first annual World Series Of Poker Europe, at the age of 18 (she turns 19 a few days after her win).
Annette is an avid online poker player, and outplayed 361 other players at the five-day £10,000 no-limit hold’em event in London’s Leicester Square. With her win, she received £1 million, or $2,013,102 USD, first-place prize and the WSOP bracelet.
With her performance, Oberstad’s win also broke two records held by poker pro Annie Duke. The first was Duke’s one-day-old record as the first woman to exceed $1 million in official WSOP winnings, and the other was the single-event record win for a woman with Duke's $2 million winner-take-all victory in the 2004 Tournament of Champions.

If you're a poker fan like myself, this might interest you. Usually a poker blog by a player might only give you an insight into a hand here and there, and some advice. Paul Wasicka's recent few blog entries come from his play at the EPT Barcelona event and he walks you though several interesting hands each day. In each hand he give you a good idea of what was going on at the table, what he did, and why he made those decisions. It's some good insight into the mind of one of the high profile names in poker. You can hit the Bluff Magazine sight HERE to read through the entries.

Phil Gordon is a well known poker player for two reasons, his skill, and not having won a bracelet yet. Since 2001 he's played in 45 WSOP tournaments and hit 17 money finishes and five final tables. Yet a bracelet still eludes him. In an article over at ESPN, he takes a good look at his career, and what he needs to do in the future. Most of the insight here is strictly about his own poker game, but a lot of what he says goes for just about anyone that wants to do something well. It's worth a quick read if you get a chance, and you can find it HERE.

Just a quick reminder that ESPN is showing the WSOP tonight at 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM ET. If you haven't caught any of it yet (as I think they've shown part of it already) this would be a good night to set the Tivo for it.
