Planters is having a pretty nice contest to send you and your friends out to Las Vegas to watch the 2009 Super Bowl. The Grand Prize will receive a trip for eight (winner and seven guests) to Las Vegas, NV on January 30, 2009 through February 2, 2009 for a Viewing Party in a hotel suite. The trip consists of roundtrip, coach class air travel for eight from to Las Vegas, NV; 4 days/3 nights hotel accommodations (4 rooms total) and the winner's suite includes a big screen TV for the viewing party; roundtrip limousine transfers between airport/hotel; a catered party in winner's suite for the viewing party on February 1, 2009, $800 allowance for beverages for the party; and $6,000 in spending money.
That would make for one sweet time in Vegas, even if it is a whole year away. The contest runs until March 31, 2008 so you have a lot of time to enter this one at their web site HERE.

While kind of a basic looking site, it might give you something to look through on this wonderful Monday morning. The Teams Of The Decade site has listed out the top NFL teams of each decade dating all the way back to the 1920's. Each team has an "Adjusted Decade Rating" based on a comprehensive formula. This formula is supposed to take into account regular season a team's winning percentage, playoff appearances, playoff victories, championships, and winning seasons. Then the formula is "adjusted" to allow for the comparisom of teams across decades.
You can check out the site HERE, and see if you agree or not with their findings. I'm sure there won't be a lot of surprises for the top teams, but after that, who knows.

I'm not sure what heartburn has to do with the Super Bowl, but tis the season for Bowl contests I guess. Not a lot of bells and whistles on this one, but there are four grand prizes, so your chances are better than normal.
The grand prize is a Super Bowl XLII prize pack. Prize pack consists of two tickets to Super Bowl XLII, to occur on February 3, 2008; four night's accommodations at a hotel; and $1,000 spending money.
There's a bunch of smaller prizes you can also win. The contest runs until January 15, 2008 and you can sign up HERE.

As an Ohio State Buckeyes fan, last night's game was terrible for so many reasons. Losing any game is a bad thing, let alone the Championship game. Ohio State spent the whole time figuring out how to kill themselves with turnovers, mostly by our QB, or penalties like the horrible roughing the kicker call. I couldn't believe our guy got that close to the kicker, didn't get any of the ball, but managed to slam into the kickers leg. Here's a hint for next time your that close, the kicker uses his foot to kick, not above the knee where you wacked him at.
This game has a lot of extra baggage with it though, rather than just a loss. It's the second loss in the Championship game in the last two years. Both times, Ohio State getting beat up on, and looking bad. With this loss comes all of the horrible hype about the team and coach.
The first is going to be if we can win the big game or not. Sure, we won it in 2002, but even that's going to slide further into the "lucky" category with these two losses. Most of this is going to fall onto Coach Tressel, which I think will be unfair. He's proven that he can win the big game, and I think all of that should be ignored, but it'll be there.
The big thing is going to have to listen to all of the people talk about how the Big Ten can't beat the SEC. I'm already tired of it, and I haven't even read the first article about it yet. I don't think that the SEC is better, any way in that I think the AFC is better than the NFC in the NFL. It happens that way sometimes, one group just does better for a while than the other. Doesn't mean they have better athletes, or are better top to bottom, just means they've had a good run as of late. Get over it.
The worst of it though, is what happens next year. There's going to be a stigma attached to Ohio State. It's going to hurt them in the rankings, it's going to hurt them in the press, and if they even make a number one ranking, all the talk is going to be about the last two Championship games, and nothing about next year's team. Even if they just have a good year, and get into a BCS bowl, we're going to have to hear about the last two years constantly, and it's going to take away from whatever bowl they make it into.
Personally, I'm catching a glimpse of what all those Buffalo Bills fans felt in the early 90's when they dropped four Super Bowls in a row. It's not a good feeling.

I do love football, but I'm not sure that this is a good idea.
The United Football League is a professional American football league being organized by William Hambrecht, a Wall Street investor and former minority partner in the USFL's Oakland Invaders, and Tim Armstrong, a senior executive at Google. Teams are already being set up in Las Vegas, Mexico City and Los Angeles and San Antonio, Raleigh-Durham, and Orlando are being considered for franchise locations. Mark Cuban, owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, has agreed to purchase a franchise for $30 million, reportedly in Las Vegas. Eight locations are planned for the first season, and are currently scheduled to start in August 2008.
The league plans to play its games on Friday nights, and they believe that the league will fill its rosters with quality players that go late in the NFL Draft or as undrafted free agents, or players that are released by NFL teams.
