As always, I hope this is a good fight. I think boxing is losing ground to MMA really fast, and they need to start putting togther some good fights to remind people how great boxing is.

Anyway, the contest is fairly basic, but I was happy to see they bumped it up by throwing in some spending cash. Here's the details:

Mayweather vs Ortiz Las Veags Sweepstakes

This could be a pretty good fight, and catching a fight weekends in Vegas are always awesome. Here's the details:

One Grand Prize is available: The Grand Prize winner will receive a 4-day/3-night trip for two to Las Vegas, Nevada from September 15, 2011 through September 18, 2011 to attend the Mayweather vs. Ortiz fight. Mayweather Wins By Easy Decision

I did get to watch this fight over the weekend. Mosley actually looked pretty good in the first two rounds, even landing a good punch that seemed to hurt Mayweather. It seems all it did though was wake Mayweather up.

After the second round, it was all Mayweather. Mosley always looked like he was trying, but Mayweather just seemed to be faster, and counter everything.

In the end, it was a very easy decision for the judges. Mayweather won by unanimous decision, taking 9 or 10 rounds on each scorecard.

Not that Mayweather has dispatched Mosley, the question on everyones mind is if he and Pacquiao can come to an agreement to fight. It’s pretty much the dream fight for boxing at the moment, and really needs to happen. Boxing has been losing ground to for the last few years to things like the UFC, which can pump out a match once a month. A dream fight like this is going to be huge, and remind people why boxing is such a great sport.

Mayweather vs. Mosley This Saturday

Yet another fight that I'm not sure is really going to be worth it. From all of the talk, though, it sounds like it could also be one of the classics. Or at least people really seem to want it to be.

Mayweather vs. Mosley: Who R U Picking? is promoted by Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions, and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, AT&T, DeWALT Tools and StubHub. The 12-round welterweight battle is set for Saturday, May 1 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas and will be produced and distributed live on HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Bernard Hopkins Vs. Roy Jones Jr. – This Saturday

I would agree with anyone that said this is just a fight between a couple of big names, doesn't mean anything, both are years past their prime, and it's more or less for a big payday. Regardless, I still have an interest in this fight. Not positive I'm going to watch it yet, but if there was a bar around that was showing it, I'd be hard pressed not to go. Here's the details:

Three exciting televised fights will warm fans up for the long-awaited rematch between future Hall of Famers Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. "The Rivals: Hopkins vs. Jones II" is scheduled for Saturday, April 3 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and live on pay-per-view.

Heading up this stacked pay-per-view undercard will be a 10-round showdown between talented up and comer Jason Litzau and perennial contender Rocky Juarez for Litzau's NABF super featherweight title. Also featured is the return of former Junior Middleweight World Champion Sergio Mora against veteran Calvin Green and unbeaten Ukrainian prospect Ismayl Sillakh steps up to the big time to face 175-pound standout Daniel Judah in another NABF title bout, this time in the light heavyweight division

Pacquiao vs Clottey This Saturday March 13th

I don't really know enough about Joshua Clottey to say if this is going to be a good fight or not. It's in a really interesting venue though, in that it's being held in Cowboys Stadium. They're planning on selling 40k seats for this event, making it on of the biggest fights in some time. Here's the details on the fighters from East Side Boxing:

Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs), of General Santos City, Philippines, will be defending the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title he earned in his last fight, produced by a 12th round knockout of three-time world champion Miguel Cotto. Pacquiao’s victory made him the first man to win seven titles in as many different weight divisions, with his last three world championships coming by way of knockout. The consensus Fighter of the Year for the third time in the past four years, Pacquiao’s resume features victories over future Hall of Famers, including Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Lopez and Cotto.

Clottey (35-3, 21 KOs), a native of Accra, Ghana, now fighting out of Bronx, NY, captured the International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight title in 2008 by trouncing three-time world champion Zab Judah. His career has been a highlight reel of thrills featuring victories over two-division world champion Diego Corrales and undefeated contender Richard Gutierrez and a close decision loss to world champion Antonio Margarito. In his last fight, Clottey lost a controversial split decision to defending WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden. Clottey is currently world-rated No. 1 by the WBO and No. 4 by the World Boxing Association (WBA).

I'm only mildly interested in this. Both of these guys are getting older, and this seems like it's more of a payday for both of them, rather than it actually meaning anything. I've always liked both of these guys though, so I'll probably show up.

Here;s the details:

After 17 years the wait is over as sure-fire future Hall of Famers Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins and Roy "The Terminator" Jones Jr. collide in a long awaited rematch that will add the final chapter to their 17-year rivalry. The Rivals: Hopkins vs. Jones II is set for Saturday, April 3 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The bout will be broadcast live on pay-per-view beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

The fighters will participate in a press tour with stops in New York and Los Angeles next Tuesday and Wednesday, February 9 and 10, respectively..

Hopkins (50-5-1, 32 KOs) and Jones (54-6, 40 KOs), two of boxing's most decorated and recognizable fighters who have given fans more than two decades worth of brilliant ring memories, will put it all on the line and leave no doubts as to who gets the bragging rights.

"A rematch with Roy has been in the back of my mind for a long time and it's finally going to happen," said Hopkins. "I have accomplished a lot in my career since that night in Washington, DC in 1993, and I am going to end this thing between me and Roy once and for all."

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Vs. Juan Manuel Marquez This Saturday

As you may remember, I originally messed up the date on this fight. Pretty sure I got it right this time. The fight will be this Saturday, September 19th.

I'll be in Vegas during this fight, so that should be cool. I'll have to throw some money on it, but honestly, I have no idea what's going to happen in this one. My best guess is that Mayweather will win either around the 8th round, or by decision. We'll see how well that prediction holds up. Here's the details of the fight:

Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. will make his celebrated return to the ring Sept. 19, the rescheduled date for his 12-round welterweight showdown against Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The HBO Pay-Per-View fight, billed as "Number One/Numero Uno," had originally been set for July 18 before Mayweather (39-0, 25 KOs) suffered a rib injury in training that forced a postponement. The fight will now take place in conjunction with Mexican Independence Day, traditionally a big boxing weekend.

Messed Up The Date Of The Fight

Sorry about that.

The Mayweather vs. Marquez fight is actually on September 19th, not this past Saturday.

This past Saturday, Aug. 29th, HBO started it's 24/7 coverage leading up to the fight.

On the up side, it means I'll be in Vegas when this fight happens. I'm not forking out the cash to see it live, unless I'm way ahead by Saturday night, but it'll be great to watch the fight in one of the sports bars. Probably at Planet Hollywood.
