Dale’s Pale Ale Grabs International Gold

I'll admit, I wouldn't have thought just by looking at it that this would take a Gold medal, but good beer is good beer.

Here's the details:

DALE’S PALE ALE GRABS INTERNATIONAL GOLD
Oskar Blues Flagship Dale’s Pale Ale Wins Gold at “The 2010 European Beer Star Competition”

LONGMONT, Colo. – In 2002 Oskar Blues Brewery from Lyons, Colo. launched the Canned Beer Apocalypse with Dale’s Pale Ale by becoming the first US craft brewery to package great craft beer in a can. Eight years later Dale’s Pale Ale continues to gain international accolades by earning a gold medal at the 2010 European Beer Star Competition.  The international recognition adds to the fast-growing popularity of canned craft beer.  The can has come into its own in recent years as beer drinkers realize that cans offer superior protection from sunlight and oxygen infiltration, and the containers are much more portable and environmentally friendly than their glass counterpart.

The 7th Annual European Beer Star Awards attracted a record 955 international entries from countries all over the world.  Beers are judged on uniqueness and authenticity by international independent experts using the Olympic benchmark awarding beers in their respective categories with gold, silver and bronze.

The European Gold medal follows Dale’s Pale Ale being named to Advertising Age Magazine’s “2010 America’s Hottest Brands” list (http://adage.com/americashottestbrands2010/).  Oskar Blues’ hands-on marketing approach & Dale’s Pale Ale, the flagship of craft beer in a can, made the ranks along with large consumer brands like DROID, iPad, McDonald’s, Gillette, Ford, Miami Heat, Reebok, M&M’s & Old Spice among others.

Oskar Blues is known for turning craft brewing on its ear by stuffing complex, three & four-dimensional beers into 12 oz. cans. As cans become a fashionable package Oskar Blues continues to walk-the-walk by brewing beer that continues to push the boundaries of what to expect from a canned beer.  “It was far-fetched for anyone to really believe, even in our industry, that someone would put a full-flavored, hoppy beer in a can,” said Dale Katechis, recalling the 2002 launch of Dale’s Pale Ale. “Some people laughed it off.”

###

ABOUT OSKAR BLUES
Three-dimensional brewing since 1999, Oskar Blues began the “Canned Beer Apocalypse” in 2002 when Dale’s Pale Ale became America’s 1st CANNED craft beer with a hand-canning line in the 60-year-old barn next door to their funky little brew-pub. Today, it’s expanded into a full throttle canning operation that continues to push the limits of what to expect out of canned beer.

PBR Rock Bar At Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas

Not sure that I'm all excited about this place, but it does have two interesting things about it: Cowgirls and a 115ft TV.

From the looks of it, this is the new, or somewhat new, club that took over the spot that used to be the Hawaiian Tropic restaurant. Sounds pretty interesting overall, so I'll have to make it a point to check it out when I get out to Vegas at the end of October.

Here's the details about it from the site:

The PBR Rock Bar offers a great destination for tourists and locals alike. The PBR Rock Bar offers a 13,000 square foot indoor restaurant and a 3,000 square foot outdoor pavilion, where people can eat great food, catch rays on the patio, watch their favorite sporting events, listen to live music, drink, dance and party, all while watching people ride the infamous mechanical bull. The PBR Rock Bar looks to capture the sports energy while offering an upbeat and comfortable place for patrons of all kinds, not just PBR fans.

A Little Bit Country, But Mostly Rock & Roll

Far from a country saloon, the PBR Rock Bar’s vibe will revolve around its positively energized environment. A great restaurant, sports bar, outdoor daiquiri hangout during the day and early evening and then turning into one of Las Vegas’ hottest bar and nightclub scenes at night.

The place to be for people who are looking for a no hassle place for great drinks, dancing and socializing. Awesome indoor and outdoor bars, some of the best DJ’s and bands in town, amazing light racks and sound systems will be rocking non-stop. And for those who have the guts, they can ride the bull!

Classic American Grill

The PBR Rock Bar Grill provides the tastes of America in a big and bold fashion. Executive Chef Billy Boyle brings gourmet culinary expertise to classic American fare to develop a unique taste just for the PBR Rock Bar. Big flavors and big portions delivery a quality dining experience that brings home the PBR style.

Nightlife

The PBR Rock Bar offers several entertainment options for customers both during the day and in the evening. Anyone who has been to Las Vegas knows that the real party starts after dark, and the PBR Rock Bar is no exception. A stage in the main dining room plays host to nightly live music from local and national bands and top notch DJ’s, adding to an energetic ambiance. The PBR Rock Bar also provides VIP bottle service for the complete Las Vegas club experience.

You can check it out online HERE.

Batch 19, A Pre-Prohibition Style Lager

This sounds interesting, so I'd be curious to have a taste at some point. Here's a little of the details:

In 1919, beer was banned. Barrels were broken, breweries went under and recipes were lost. When beer came back 14 years later, it was never the same. That is until now, because in 2004, an old logbook was discovered in the brewery archives dating back before 1919. Batch 19 is inspired by the last batches of beer brewed before Prohibition made it illegal.

Unfortunately, it's only available in a few cities at the moment, Milwaukee, Chicago, San Fran, DC, and San Jose. If your in any of those areas, feel free to send me one.

You can check out the site HERE.

2 Tier 24 Beer Bottle Chandelier

This is a pretty cool idea, and would be great for a home bar or man-cave.

They have everything from a two tiered light that hold 24 bottles and costs around $300 (shown in the picture), all the way up to a 52 bottles version for a poll table, costing around $1,250.

The other interesting piece to the lights is that none of them come with beer bottles. Which of course means you get to fill them up with anything you want. Hopefully after a good party.

You can hit the website HERE, and check out all of the lights.

1001 Beers You Must Taste Before You Die

You need to buy this, and see if you can make it through all 1001. Here's the details:

The world’s best beers—from Europe’s classics to the latest new-wave microbrew sensations. Finally, a book that treats beer as seriously as wine! This latest volume in the acclaimed 1001 series supplies the connoisseurs’ scoop on ferreting out the best among an ever-increasing array of available brews—from exotic foreign beers to the constantly evolving world of American microbrews and homebrews. The book focuses on the world of premium beers—from obscure labels to such traditional yet supremely local brands as Shiner (Austin, Texas), from Czech pilsners to German lagers, Belgian wheat beers, and Trappists ales, not to mention the classic British porters and Irish stouts—every type of beer is covered, making this the "go-to" volume for serious beer lovers. No mere catalogue or encyclopedia, the volume features critical tasting notes and subjective assessments that will help match the right beer to the right occasion. Is this beer light, crisp, and refreshing (good for a picnic), or dry, bitter, and appetizing? Each description includes notes on the flavor and body of the beer, explains why it tastes the way it does, and describes strength and ideal serving temperature.

You can grab one HERE.

Wine Enthusiast Koolatron Rechargeable Bar On Wheels

This is pretty much just an expensive beer cooler. However, it does have some great points in that it holds 120 cans, and will cool them all down to 40 degrees. It can hold a lot of other stuff obviously, but really, why would you?

Here's the details from the Bed, Bath & Beyond site:

Your patio, a friend's backyard, the parking lot of a sports arena — there's no place this portable, rechargeable cooler can't go to provide you with refreshments at near refrigerator temperature. A spacious cabinet with three removable shelves and an in-the-door bottle compartment let you stock up to your heart's content, including wine bottles, soda cans, juice cartons, bottled water, and more. The flat "bar top" surface and hanging basket on the outside make storing and serving easy. Two sturdy wheels offer tilt-and-roll transport. Cools to 40° F and holds up to 120 12-ounce cans. Plugs into a standard home outlet and includes an AC/DC adapter for vehicle charging. Rechargeable battery provides active, quiet cooling for four hours.

It's expensive at $450, but you can get one HERE.
