Artisan Hotel, Las Vegas

This place is a little off the strip, on Sahara drive at the top of the Strip. Not so far out though that you couldn't pay a cab ten bucks to get you to TI or the Mirage.

Not sure on the cost per night, but it might be worth it if your looking for something a little different next time you go to Vegas. Here's a little bit about the place:

The ARTISAN experience begins as the valet greets you and draws open the heavily gilded gothic doors. Stepping into the ornate art-filled lobby, you are instantly transported to another world. You’ll blink as your eyes adjust to the light from sparkling chandeliers and flickering candles:  it’s 1914, the Parisian Left Bank, an elegant and mysterious world of art, absinthe, and decadent indulgence. Day becomes night and everything you can imagine is real! For pleasure (or business!) The ARTISAN is Las Vegas’ exceptional non-gaming hotel boutique, bistro, and ultra-lounge.

You can check out more pictures of the place HERE.

Devotion Vodka

I'm normally a purist when it comes to vodka. It shouldn't be flavored, and only drunk in a martini. Yes, that's a bit snobbish, but I'm ok with that.

Devotion Vodka interests me as it's infused with Casein (protein). Not sure if that would do anything to the taste or not, but I'm interested to find out (my guess is that it does nothing to the taste, but any excuse to make martinis is a good one). They recently sent me a press release, and I've added some of it in below:

Devotion Vodka Continues to Expand and Hires Seasoned Spirits Experts to Head Sales and Distribution

New Jersey—May 25, 2010—Devotion Vodka, the world’s smoothest American made vodka, continues to make its mark on the spirits industry. After launching in San Francisco and New Jersey, the Casein-infused vodka is expanding to Las Vegas, Southern California, New York and Arizona. Devotion Vodka infused with Casein (protein) is quickly transforming cocktails across the country. The company is already in its second round of production, as the first round sold out in four and a half months (it was expected to last one year).

Devotion is also defining a new generation of vodka aficionados who devote themselves fully to everything they do in life. “People who drink Devotion aren’t afraid to stand out and take charge; we’ve always worked hard and played harder. That is the mantra of the Devotion brand,” says Devotion founder Andrew Adelman.

Not only has the new 80-proof, triple-distilled vodka been successful in the nightlife arena, but the brand was also just recognized by the Radius Beverage Trends Report. This report provides an overview of key new product launches and movements across the beverage industry, highlighting the most interesting, stylish and innovative new brands and products from around the world. “Ultimately, you must deliver great taste, extreme clarity and excellent mouth feel,” says Bob Jones, VP of Devotion Spirits, Inc. “With Devotion Vodka Infused with Casein, we believe we have delivered on every front.”

Devotion Vodka is continuing to expand. Recently, Devotion announced the hiring of Michael Lopez-Calleja, a seasoned spirits industry expert, as the National Director of Sales. He will be responsible for sales and national launches throughout the U.S. and abroad. Lopez-Calleja compiled extensive experience with both Brown Forman and Skyy Spirits. He has taken over some of the largest spirits territories and increased sales by implementing successful marketing programs and working closely with distributors. He has worked at the Vice President level at a variety of companies and brings experience, drive and excellent connections to Devotion.

Devotion Vodka also announced the appointment of Johnny Metheny as their West Coast Director of Sales. Metheny is the renowned owner of Johnny Loves Nightclub in Northern California and also produced and distributed his own line of spirits, Johnny Loves Vodka.

Devotion Vodka has been introduced in a 750-milliliter bottle at a suggested retail price of $28.99. The frosted glass bottle with the iconic logo and recognizable red cap has further distinguished the brand and lifestyle that is unique to Devotion Vodka Infused with Casein. New Eco-Drive Concept Models for 2010

Not a bad looking watch. I'd of course like to see in black at some point, but it's only a concept at the moment. Here's the details:

At BASELWORLD 2010, CITIZEN again unveils concept models that represent “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty.”

We propose new watch styles made possible only by Eco-Drive technology, with innovative, sophisticated designs that add new lustre to the distinctive CITIZEN brand.

They are the latest embodiments of the infinite potential of Eco-Drive technology and innovative watch design, gathering expectations to become production models.

"Eco-Drive EYES"
Shadows cast by the raised index and floating ring give texture and depth to the pure-white dial. Light captured by the solar cell around the circumference of the dial is converted to power. The perfect balance of light and shadow gives a clean and active feel to the design.

You can check out this one, and the other concept, over at the Citizen website HERE.

The Glenfiddich 50 Year Old

Obviously this isn't going to be cheap, and I've seen prices from $15k and up per bottle. I'd love to find someplace that I could at least get a sip or two. Here's the details from the Glenfiddich site:

The Glenfiddich 50 Year Old is a product of time, of 50 years spent maturing in oak casks, its complex and sensuous flavours mellowing and smoothing over the years. But the whisky also benefits from the time our craftsmen have spent looking after it, their experiences and traditions passed down over 120 years.

Unveiled by Peter Grant Gordon at The Glenfiddich Distillery in July 2009, Glenfiddich 50 Year Old is not just a part of our history; it is our history. The first vatting was created from just nine casks, laid down between 1937 and 1939, one for each of our founder, Willliam Grant’s children, who helped their father build The Glenfiddich Distillery by hand in 1886. This is only the second ever vatting of Glenfiddich 50 Year Old.

Glenfiddich 50 Year Old is the darkest Glenfiddich whisky, with an astonishing taste. It has a well-balanced nose, with a pleasantly sweet woody aroma. This progresses to a smooth sweet fruity flavour.

TASTING NOTES

This exquisite whisky has been drawn from two casks, both having spent the last 50 years maturing in the darkness and chill of Warehouse 8. Before bottling, David Stewart married them for six months in an American oak barrel to give the wondrous array of flavours and aromas an unrivalled harmony.

The colour of Glenfiddich 50 Year Old is golden amber.

The nose is beautifully harmonious with an uplifting, vibrant and complex aroma. Delicate floral notes (rose petals and violets) are intriguingly intertwined with green tobacco leaf and oak and just a faint hint of smoke.

The taste is initially very sweet with a zesty orange marmalade and vanilla toffee, which then cascades through a wonderful series of layers: aromatic herbs, floral and soft fruits, silky oak tannin and hints of gentle smoke.

You can read about it at the Glenfiddich site HERE.

Spirit Las Vegas Sweepstakes

As Vegas trips go, this isn't the best. The problem here is that there's no hotel with this trip. On the upside though, hotels in Vegas are pretty cheap at the moment. Here's what you get with this one:

A $500 Miracle Mile Shops shopping spree, dinner for two at Cabo Wabo Cantina, two tickets to V – The Ultimate Variety Show, PLUS round-trip airfare for two courtesy of spiritmag.com.

You would think that they could give you a hotel rather than a shopping spree, but that's what they decided on.

The contest runs through May 31, 2010, and you can enter it HERE.

Batch 19, A Pre-Prohibition Style Lager

This sounds interesting, so I'd be curious to have a taste at some point. Here's a little of the details:

In 1919, beer was banned. Barrels were broken, breweries went under and recipes were lost. When beer came back 14 years later, it was never the same. That is until now, because in 2004, an old logbook was discovered in the brewery archives dating back before 1919. Batch 19 is inspired by the last batches of beer brewed before Prohibition made it illegal.

Unfortunately, it's only available in a few cities at the moment, Milwaukee, Chicago, San Fran, DC, and San Jose. If your in any of those areas, feel free to send me one.

You can check out the site HERE.
