RedEye Turns Your iPhone Into A Universal Remote

I love this idea. There's been a few things like this here and there, but because thing one converts the iPhone Wi-Fi signal to infrared, it can control just about anything. Here's the press release with all of the details:

RedEye uses Wi-Fi to turn the iPhone or iPod touch into a personal remote that controls any infrared device from any room in the home

Waltham, MA – December 2, 2009 — ThinkFlood (http://thinkflood.com/) today announced availability of the RedEye personal remote control for iPhone and iPod touch (http://redeyeremote.com/). RedEye is the only complete universal remote control system for the iPhone and iPod touch that allows users to control virtually any home entertainment device from any room in the home.

The RedEye system is easy to use, and set up is simple (watch RedEye setup demo: http://thinkflood.com/products/redeye/getting-started/). Customers download the free RedEye app from the iTunes App Store, and place the RedEye base station in the same room as the equipment it will control. The iPhone or iPod touch communicates with the RedEye base station through the customer’s wireless network to control TVs, DVRs, stereos, gaming equipment and more.

Customers can download codes from RedEye's global code database, which is updated regularly. RedEye also has a learning function, which allows users to program commands using an existing device remote.

“We wanted to create something more than just another remote control,” said Matt Eagar, president and co-founder of ThinkFlood. “Internet connectivity and future software updates give us a lot of room to think big.”

Why choose RedEye instead of a traditional universal remote or home automation system?

  • For only $188, RedEye offers benefits that were previously available only in full home automation systems and high-end universal remotes. Systems that offer similar levels of control require professional installation, technical know-how, or an entire day of frustration. The RedEye base station also doubles as a charging dock.
  • Instead of having one remote for every device — or even an oversized universal remote with too many buttons — RedEye customers only need to handle an iPhone or iPod touch.
  • RedEye supports multiple rooms, controllers, and users simultaneously. It controls a virtually unlimited number of devices and can store a virtually unlimited number of commands, far exceeding competitive product offerings.
  • RedEye offers activity-based control, meaning users can program RedEye to execute a series of commands with only one touch. Additionally, only the buttons appropriate to the activity appear on the screen.
  • RedEye users can customize the way they control their equipment with touchscreen buttons, Apple’s Multi-Touch gestures, and accelerometer controls. For example swiping two fingers down the screen can reduce volume and flicking the iPhone forward can change the channel (watch accelerometer gestures demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=506PyY-iK1I).
  • RedEye is available through the ThinkFlood website (https://thinkflood.com/buy/products/redeye/), which also lists participating dealers and retail locations.

Wine Enthusiast Koolatron Rechargeable Bar On Wheels

This is pretty much just an expensive beer cooler. However, it does have some great points in that it holds 120 cans, and will cool them all down to 40 degrees. It can hold a lot of other stuff obviously, but really, why would you?

Here's the details from the Bed, Bath & Beyond site:

Your patio, a friend's backyard, the parking lot of a sports arena — there's no place this portable, rechargeable cooler can't go to provide you with refreshments at near refrigerator temperature. A spacious cabinet with three removable shelves and an in-the-door bottle compartment let you stock up to your heart's content, including wine bottles, soda cans, juice cartons, bottled water, and more. The flat "bar top" surface and hanging basket on the outside make storing and serving easy. Two sturdy wheels offer tilt-and-roll transport. Cools to 40° F and holds up to 120 12-ounce cans. Plugs into a standard home outlet and includes an AC/DC adapter for vehicle charging. Rechargeable battery provides active, quiet cooling for four hours.

It's expensive at $450, but you can get one HERE.

el Jimador Tequila

This is another one of those things that I need to try. Here's the press release:

Louisville, Ky., (Dec. 1, 2009) – el Jimador Tequila is breaking new ground in the U.S. spirits industry by offering the first authentic tequila cocktail in a can. Beginning in December with California then rolling out to the remainder of the U.S. by late spring, the number one selling ready-to-drink tequila cocktail in Mexico*, el Jimador “NEW MIX”, will be available where spirits are sold in a single serving or four-pack of cans.

el Jimador NEW MIX was introduced in 1997 and quickly became the top selling RTD in Mexico,” said John Hayes, managing director for Casa Herradura, the maker of el Jimador NEW MIX. “Because of the popularity of NEW MIX in Mexico and the increasing call for tequila in the U.S., it was an easy decision to bring NEW MIX to the U.S.”

Made with el Jimador Tequila, NEW MIX will be available in three refreshing cocktails: the Paloma, the most popular tequila cocktail in Mexico, the Margarita, the #1 requested cocktail in the U.S., and the Spicy Mango Margarita, which blends a nice mix of sweet heat. Each cocktail comes in a 12-ounce can at 5% ABV, similar to most beers.

NEW MIX delivers a premium alternative to beer in a true spirit-based, readymade cocktail that consumers have been looking for,” said Carrie Kleban, global marketing director for Casa Herradura.  “NEW MIX makes it easy to enjoy the perfect pour of your favorite tequila cocktail at barbeques, tailgating, or sitting by the pool.”

With the U.S. launch, NEW MIX will receive a new look and an advertising campaign to introduce the brand.

“NEW MIX in the U.S. will feature a slightly different can design than in Mexico, plus will receive an energetic advertising campaign that builds on the black and white iconography success of the el Jimador Tequila campaign,” she said. “The U.S. cans position the el Jimador brand name more prominently to reinforce the tequila in the cocktail as well as the 21+ responsibility message.”

With more people entertaining at home, NEW MIX offers a refreshing alternative to the norm and is a perfect addition to your cooler. For more information about el Jimador NEW MIX, please visit www.eljimador.com.

The CMT-380 is a hybrid supercar that's powered by lithium-polymer batteries and a microturbine engine, set in a Factory Five Racing GTM body.

The car's makers say that it has a 0-60 mph of 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 150 mph. Plus, you get all that speed, and a good for the environment feeling, at 500 miles per tank of gas.

You can read more about it over at Motor Authority HERE.
