The Dalmore Sirius Malt Whisky

Ultra expensive whisky seems to be the thing to do at the moment. Not that I'm complaining, other than not having the cash to buy most of it. Here's the details:

A rare 1951-vintage single malt whisky with a RSP of £10,000 per bottle will be released today (Monday 5 October).

Only 12 decanters of the Sirius expression from premium whisky brand The Dalmore will be produced. Sirius will only be available to private buyers and through a limited network of World Duty Free (WDF) stores.

“The international market for high-end luxury products which have an investment value is buoyant – and the finest whiskies are playing an increasingly dominant role in this sector,” says The Dalmore’s Brand Director, David Robertson.

“Our partnership with World Duty Free allows us to reach an elite group of investors and whisky aficionados across the globe. We will be focusing on key target markets in Taiwan, USA and France.”

Sirius will be launched in the flagship WDF store at Heathrow Terminal 5. Nigel Sandals, Category Buying Manager for Liquor at WDF, adds: “Our customer base contains some of the most knowledgeable investors in spirits in the world.

“Being able to offer the absolute best-quality luxury goods is a very strong incentive for buyers to use travel retail and World Duty Free – as they would a specialist retailer – to get exceptional value and to see a real return on their investment.”

The Dalmore’s 1951 Sirius Vintage is a single-cask, single malt whisky, with a cask strength of 45%.

The Dalmore Master Distiller, Richard Paterson, says: “Distinguished and elegant, age has gracefully finessed this brilliant expression. Sirius is, quite simply, one of the world’s most perfect whiskies.”

Adega Coop. de Borba Wine

Wine Spectator Rates its first bottle of Borba

The wine publication Wine Spectator has rated, for the first time, a wine from the Adega Coop. de Borba in Portugal's Alentejo Region. The magazine reviewed the Adegaborba.pt White 2008 at $8 per bottle and gave it  an 87. Of the wine, they wrote: A rich style, this white offers loads of concentrated pear and baked apple flavors that finish with a flourish of mineral and spice."

Borba is one of Portugal's premier wine producers. Now, through importer L & B Beverage of East Providence RI, they are expanding distribution in the U.S. Market.

Founded in 1955, the Adega Coop. de Borba was the first of a series of cooperatives in the Alentejo region. Today, the Adega Coop. de Borba includes 300 members whose vineyards cover a total area of 2,000 metric acres. About two-thirds are dedicated to red grape varietals and one-third grow white grape varietals.

To continually uphold and improve the quality of their products, the Adega Coop. de Borba strives to inspire the passion of making great wines. After selecting and cultivating the best grape varietals, it is the commitment of the cooperative members that has made Borba a world-class wine.

Audi TT-RS – The new “Ur-Quattro”

I love the TT in the flat black. I also love press releases, so here's the one on this car:

Latest creation from AVUS PERFORMANCE is something special for all Audi fans, especially
those who remember the Ur-Quattro with its blistering 5 cyl. turbo sound. The remake by Audi is
better known as the TT-RS which shares the engine and of course the sound.

With a stock power of 340bhp and 332 lb/ft of torque it is capable of doing the 0-60 in 4.6s.
AVUS PERFORMANCE takes it a step forward and improves the power and the look of the TT-RS.
Adjustable coilovers, gloss black 20" Sportec Mono wheels make the TT-RS look much more
aggressive. Thanks to the special setup which improves the factory suspension even further and
makes the TT run a lot smoother not only on country roads. Different setups for the race track are
avaiable either.

The matt black skin is something you will probably notice first when seeing the TT-RS. True to the
motto „Gloss is out, matt is IN" tuner AVUS PERFORMANCE changes it to matt black (other colors
avaiable on request). To give the TT-RS the final touch for the race track power has been increased significantly to a stunning 460bhp and more than 472 lb/ft of torque. 0-60 will be passed in about 3.8s and top speed increases to 194mph. Therefore AVUS PERFORMANCE modifies the turbo, ECU software and the exhaust system from turbo back with racing cats.

1800 Tequila Essential Artist Winners

I'll have to look around for these bottles. Not only do I like the Tequila, but some of the artwork is pretty nice.

You can check out the winners HERE.

Here's the press release:

Proximo Spirits, Inc. and 1800® Tequila are thrilled to announce today the release of the second annual collection of limited-edition Essential Artists bottles.  Introducing 12 new bottles designed by up-and-coming artists from New York to Hawaii, the 1800 Tequila Essential Artists series celebrates a dynamic range of original artwork on a unique and unexpected medium – bottles of 100% Agave Silver Tequila! Showcasing eleven designs gathered from over 15,000 online submissions, selected by 1800 Tequila, and one special edition “celebrity artist” bottle, this new line is a vibrant example of the undiscovered, yet soon-to-be-recognized talent residing across the country.

The first installation of the series proved to be a compelling initiative, attracting attention from a wide-range of both world-renowned and unknown artists. This year, in addition to the eclectic variety of 11 user-generated designs, 1800 Tequila is excited to feature a special-edition bottle by Studio Number One, a group of rising star designers whose work is now being recognized as ‘essential’ in the art world.

Founded in 2003 by artist Shepard Fairey (who gained global notoriety this year for his Obama “Hope” design), Studio Number One has built a reputation as one of today’s most influential creative agencies in the country. Describing themselves as a “firm where art and design bridge the gap between culture and enterprise,” Studio Number One reflects the mission of the 1800 Tequila Essential Artists series.

“It's a pleasure to be involved with something that puts art in more people's hands, and to work with a brand like 1800 Tequila that supports and promotes artists," said Amanda Fairey, Chief Operating Officer for Studio Number One.

"We wanted to create something that's as much fun to enjoy on the shelf as it is off the shelf. It's a design that captures the wild side of tequila, but tames it with a dose of humor and a sense of adventure," added Florencio Zavala, Associate Creative Director for Studio Number One.

In addition to Studio Number One, eleven artists nationwide contributed work to create the series of 12 bottles.  These artists include StevOramA (Honolulu, HI), the $10,000 Grand Prize Winner whose design has been given a starring role in the series, as well as Ian McGillivray (Brooklyn, NY), Nickelyn Reames (Manteca, CA), danyol (San Francisco, CA), Leyland “Lee” DeVito (Detroit, MI), Danielle Salinas (Bloomfield, NJ), Chad Shore (Atlanta, GA), Mark Sweeney (San Francisco, CA), Branden Tintiangco (San Diego, CA), Chuck Trunks (Los Angeles, CA), and Michelle Villasenor (Atlanta, GA).

We’re excited to offer another round of Essential Artists bottles, as we received an overwhelmingly positive response to the first campaign,” said Elwyn Gladstone, VP of Marketing for Proximo.  “Emerging artists can struggle for years before seeing their work recognized on a national scale, but the creative genius behind the submissions and the incredible demand from consumers has allowed us to expand this program and feature 11 more artists, on our way to showcasing 1,800 inspired submissions.”

Only a limited number of bottles have been produced, making for an attractive collector’s item and lively addition to any bar.  To find the bottles, which retail for $24.99 each, consumers can enter their zip codes into the “Liquor Locator” on 1800Tequila.com to find the series in their area.  In hopes of encouraging other artists to make their dreams a reality, 1800 Tequila plans to re-launch the contest at the end of this year, inviting artists to submit their own bottle designs for a chance at inclusion in the next series.
