Speaking of Cigar Aficionado, they've finally taken the plunge and sponsored a cigar shop. Just another reason for me to get back out to NY soon. The following information about the new place was pulled from the CA article HERE:
The upscale cigar store, located on Second Avenue between East 53rd and 54th streets, contains the world’s first Cigar Aficionado smoking lounge and Cigar Aficionado humidor.
The comfortable smoking lounge, outfitted with leather couches and chairs and a working gas fireplace, occupies nearly a third of the 3,000-square-foot shop. There are 80 humidified lockers available for rental at the back wall of the lounge.
The shop is meant as the complete man’s retreat. In addition to a walk-in humidor brimming with cigars from the top names in the business, the Cigar Inn sells a line of men’s haberdashery items, with an emphasis on fine ties. There is also a Brioni counter, accessories from Elie Bleu, Dupont, Davidoff, Dunhill and Xikar, a row of Manning humidors and many other items for sale.
The store boasts several flat-screen televisions and a sophisticated sound system; classical music is the preferred sound for Cigar Inn, but when the New York Giants are playing, the game will be on in the Cigar Aficionado lounge.
Two custom-made barber’s chairs, imported from Japan, are stationed before two gilded frame mirrors, and a barber will be available by appointment. An old-fashioned shoeshine stand, with two seats, is also part of the shop.
The Cigar Inn on Second Avenue is open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. until 1 a.m. On Sundays, the store closes at 9 p.m., unless special events are being televised. “If there is any game—any Super Bowl, any boxing event—we stay late,” says owner Billy Fakih.

The first 2010 Audi R8 V-10 available in the U.S. was auctioned off at the Boca Raton Concours d' Elegance recently. While the car only has a retail price of $180,000, the first one was auctioned off for an impressive half million dollars. Also auctioned off was the first Ferrari California which sold for $350,000 (normally about $225,000).
The winning bidder for the Audi will also receives an official certificate of authenticity. The car will be built along with the otherss at Audi's Neckarsulm, Germany, facility, and the cars should start showing up at dealers in early 2010.
The auction was hosted by Howie Mandel and raised over $1 million for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, Florida.

This is an interesting idea.
A couple and an architect friend or theirs have created a house with an outer shell that can slide back and forth. The idea is that they can open the shell up during the summer months, and then close it during the winter.
The outer shell is moved by 4 electric motors that can move around 20-tons each. When activated, the shell opens or closes in just six minutes.
I'd love to know what it cost to create, but no details on that.

The event will be held Saturday April 18th, 2009 at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods.
Tickets are $240, but you'll get a good little bit for your money. The event will have over 25 handmade premium cigars, a large variety of premium spirits, beer, and wine, a buffet, and you can actually smoke the cigars there (which is becoming harder and harder to do these days). It also looks like they have a code if you want to book a room at the MGM Grand, but don't mention if there's a discount.
If you're interested in buying a ticket, you can hit the CA site HERE to grab one. The site also gives a list of what cigar makers will be there.
I still haven't been able to go to one of these yet, and this one unfortunetly will be no exception. If any of you do go, email me some pictures.

I hate to hear things like this. From the Glasgow Evening Times:
advertisement

Around 650 workers at the Diageo Johnnie Walker factory in Kilmarnock will be sent home for a week in March and a week in April following an internal review.
It's one of three packaging plants operated in Scotland by the world's largest drinks firm. The others are in Glasgow and Fife.
A company spokesman said: "In response to our current volume outlook we have decided to temporarily close our Kilmarnock packaging site for two weeks during which the employees affected will continue to be paid.
At least no one is getting laid off or anything. However, you know it's getting bad when a liquor plant needs to slow down because people aren't drinking enough. You can read the rest of the article HERE.

I'll admit that I slack from time to time and don't get as many posts up as I like. The other problem is that I tend to make it a point to only post certain things, and it does take some time to track all that down. What I've decided to do is open up my criteria a little bit, and start posting a lot more. While it might not all be high quality, I hope to at least make it interesting enough that you can stop by once or twice a day, and find a few things to read. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think of the changes.

The maker only has three different kinds of rings for sale, but they caught my eye.
There's not a lot of information at the site, which is a shame. I'd like to know a lot more about them.
What I can tell you is that the run between $80 and $90, and are handmade. He also sells six different kinds of earings if you might be interested to get someone a unique gift.
Hopefully he gets a lot more sales for these, and adds some more designs sometime soon.
You can check them out, and buy one, HERE.

This looks like it could be a Batmobile prototype. From Autoblog:
The R is an evolved version of the standard open-wheel two-seater, packing a Mercedes-sourced 5.5-liter V12 available in either naturally aspirated, 550 hp guise or a twin-turbocharged 760 hp version that dolls out an astonishing 811 lb-ft of torque. The Group claims a 0-100 kph (62mph) time of 3.6 seconds and a 10.15-second run to 200 kph (124mph).
The car weighs just 2,777 pounds, is 192 inches from nose to tail, 82 inches wide and 51 inches tall, and has a almost perfect weight distribution of 50:50 left to right and 42:58 front to rear.
The car of course is a limited production run, with only 12 cars made per year, and an incredible price tag of $495,000.

I'm not sure I really buy this, but it would be worth getting a bottle and trying it out.
ASM Liquor states that its Naked Scot whiskey can be drunk to excess with no morning-after effects. They say the reason for this is that it's free from herbicides, pesticides and fungicides.
Although ASM is an Australian company, Naked Scot is distilled on the Isle of Mull and aged three years.
ASM has come under fire for their claim, as health experts point out that a major cause of a hangover comes from dehydration, and the Scotch Whisky Association pointed out that “The claim is misleading because the science of distillation means there is no question of ‘residual herbicides, pesticides and fungicides’ being in any bottle of Scotch whisky.”
It could just be a publicity stunt, but I'm sure if it even helps a little bit, it's going to become very popular.
Also, I'm not sure what you have to do to get a job at the Scotch Whisky Association, but I really need to look into that.
You can hit the ASM Liquor site HERE, but a warning, if you don't like techno music, turn off your speakers.

I absolutely love the look of this car.
The car will officially be unveiled at the Geneva autoshow next month, but there are a few details about it already
The Z-One will be powered by a Corvette 6.2L LS3 V8 engine, giving it a 0-62mph time of less than four seconds and a top speed close to 200mph.
Only 999 Z-Ones will be made, and will be priced at around $115,400.
You can read a little more about the car over at Motor Authority HERE.
