Crushpad My Soon Let You Make Bordeaux Wine

Crushpad, a company that helps you make your own wine using grapes from California, Washington and Oregon may soon offer Bordeaux grapes.

The founder of Crushpad, Michael Brill, was recently in Bordeaux to meet producers and consultants, including Thibault Despagne and Stephen Derenoncourt. There's nothing final yet, but it sounds like they're really interested in putting something together.

Stephen Bolger, Crushpad's European managing director, told Decanter.com, "There is only a modest market for high end California wines outside of the US, but Bordeaux is universally loved.

"There are many winemakers in Bordeaux with great terroir and passion, but who maybe lack the marketing skills to differentiate themselves. It means that we have access to high quality fruit, and can help bridge the gap to get to market."

If Crushpad goes through with it, the bottles that are produced will be labeled with "AOC Bordeaux", rather than a specific appellation, which is the common way to pick a quality Bordeaux.

I will admit that I'm probably not going to be able to put up the five to ten grand Crushpad charges anytime soon, but I think it's a great move on their part. Especially since Bordeauxis generally one of my favorite wines.
