Mr. Slim Las Vegas Contest

I'm not sure what golf or Las Vegas has to do with a airconditioner, but I guess a Vegas contest does get people's attention.

Mitsubishi Electronics is hold a contest to promote their Mr. Slim split-ductless system.  The winner of the contest gets a trip for two to TPC Las Vegas, including economy round trip coach class airfare, four nights standard hotel accommodations, standard rental car for four days and 3 rounds of 18 hole golf.

You do have to take the trip before March 15, 2009, and the contest itself runs until August 31, 2008. You can enter the contest HERE.

VegasRex And The Electronic Poker Table

Well, the Excalibur has installed some of the new electronic poker tables. VegasRex and a freind of his went over and checked them out. There was some interesting things that you could do at the table, such as paying $0.50 to rabbit hunt and see what the next few cards would be after you fold. I try never to do that, but sometimes you just want to know. Of course, it's always entertaining to read VegasRex talk about his time running around Vegas. Though, if you're German, you might want to skip it, or just please remember to send him the hate mail.

You can read his take on the new poker tables over at the VegasRex site HERE

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim

JustLuxé has up a pretty decent almost ten minute video of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, held at the Raleigh Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida. The annual event coincides with the swimwear industry's largest tradeshow, and they talk to several designers, while showing you the woman walking the catwalk in the suits they designed.

You can hit the site HERE to watch the video.

The Letherman Argentum Collection

Leatherman is celebrating their 25th anniversary with the release of the Argentum Collection – a line of limited edition leatherman tools hand crafted by silversmith Adrian Pallarols.

The lowest priced letherman is the Squirt Lagrima de Luna, made of sterling silver and costing $240. That's nothing though compared to the top model, the Del Rey. Here's what the site has to say about that one:

Like King Midas whose touch turned everything to gold, artist Adrian Pallarols extends his luxurious style to the Del Rey, Leatherman’s 25th Anniversary luxury tool. Using 18K gold from the Andes for the handles, Adrian crafts each of these with his unique Del Rey design, Tim Leatherman’s signature and the 25th Anniversary crest. Only 25 of the Del Rey model will be produced.

The Del Rey is priced at a whopping $40,000.

Not exactly a tool you're going to be using to fix something around the house, but all of the models in the collection are fully functional and come with a 25-year warranty.

You can see all seven models in the collection at the Letherman site HERE.

The Trident Iceni

If you're looking for speed, without giving up gas mileage, then you definitely need to add this car to your list.

The Iceni comes with a Duramax turbo diesel engine that produces 550 horsepower at 3800 rpm. The car can go from 0-60mph in just 3.9 seconds, the quarter mile in 12 seconds, and has a top speed of 170mph. All that sounds impressive, but it's the gas mileage that's really interesting.

The car has been set up to run on biodiesel, so it's better than the normal gas guzzler right off the bat. The next piece of the puzzle is that the car maker Trident has created what they call "torque multiplication".

“Diesels operate more efficiently within the right rev range and fewer revolutions mean less friction. So a 2.5-litre diesel engine hammering down the M4 at 4,200rpm is not very efficient when with modification it could be doing it at 1,000rpm. Diesel engines are torque rich, but brake-horse power poor," says Phil Bevan, the chief designer.

Probably with the Bugatti Veyron’s 1,000bhp-plus in mind, Bevan insists he is not interested in bhp. “It’s a myth,” he says. “The most important thing is optimizing the efficiency of an engine. In Formula One, the optimum rev point is 18,000rpm, which means that all gear changes occur at this figure. With the Iceni R it is 3,500rpm, and our computer model shows that at 56mph the engine generates 402rpm and that works out at 71.5mpg.”

That's right, the car can get up to 70 plus miles per gallon. A single tank of gas will take you over 1,000 miles.

There's even more to it than mph though. Bevan explains that the General Motors diesel engine has its first service at 100,000 miles and the gearbox is sealed for life. “The stainless steel chassis has a 100-year guarantee, while the Kevlar carbon fiber body means that it’s a car that you can hand down to your grandchildren,” he says.

The car will still cost you a pretty penny or two, starting at around $110,000. You can read more about the car over at the Trident site HERE.

The Mercedes-Benz SL63 Kicherer Evo Edition

The Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG was already the sportiest models in the Mercedes lineup with 525hp. German tuner Kicherer decided to make it even better. Applying lessons learned from its previous K60 Evo, the tuner has upgraded the 6.2L V8 engine to produce 560hp and 495lb-ft of torque, putting it into near supercar territory. The 0-62mph sprint takes just 4.3 seconds (0.3 seconds faster than the standard SL63), with an electronically controlled top speed of 198mph.

Pricing for the package starts at approximately $32,175 plus, of course, the cost of the Mercedes SL itself.

You can read some more details, and see a few more pictures, over at the Motor Authority site HERE
