Peugeot 308 RC Z Coupe Entering Production

Peugeot debuted it's 308 RC Z coupe concept at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, and few thought that the car would ever enter production. In a surprise move however, Peugeot has confirmed the car will be a production model and could be ready to go as early as next year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

One of the 308's main backers is Peugeot’s new CEO Christian Streiff, whose interest in the original concept is the main reason things are moving forward, and the car is set to hit the showroom floors in early 2010.

The production car will be a lot like the concept that inspired it, and will ride on a lightened chassis and based on the 308 hatch. The engine will probably be the same 1.6L supercharged engine that the smaller 207 RC currently has but power is expected to be boosted to around 220hp. Reports have the car currently priced at around $35,000, but that of course is subject to change between now, and when the first car rolls off the assembly line.

You can catch more pictures of the 308 RC Z Coupe concept over at the Motor Authority site HERE.
