From the press release:
Virgin Galactic today unveiled the design of its new, environmentally benign, space launch system based on the X Prize winning technology of SpaceShipOne, which successfully flew into space for the third time in October 2004 and won the $10m Ansari X Prize.
The construction of the White Knight Two (WK2) mothership, or carrier aircraft, is now very close to completion at Scaled Composites in Mojave, CA and is expected to begin flight testing in the summer of 2008. It is the world’s largest, all carbon composite aircraft; it has a unique high altitude lift capacity, capable of launching SpaceShipTwo and its eight astronauts into sub-orbital space flight.
Whilst the two vehicles comprising the space launch system have been under construction, Virgin Galactic’s cadre of future astronauts has continued to grow strongly to well in excess of 200 individuals with around 85,000 registrations of interest to fly. The deposit base now exceeds $30m representing more than $45m of future income to the fledgling spaceline.
Virgin Galactic will make further announcements regarding the progress of the launch system, development of its markets, the test flying program and start of commercial operations at Spaceport America in due course.

This year the graduate students from the Instituto Europeo di Designare are coming to Geneva with a full-size concept Maserati. The Chicane concept is the students idea of what the upcoming entry-level Maserati sports coupe could look like. The Chicane is a 2+2 with a front-mounted V8 driving the rear wheels, but the IED students have departed somewhat from the GranTurismo in favor of more sports car look by making the Chicane shorter than the Pininfarina-designed GT, losing a lot of the chrome, and giving the vehicle recessed headlights.
You can read more about the concept at the Autoblog HERE and Car Body Design HERE.

Deutsche Bank has taken the initial steps toward foreclosure on the $3 billion Cosmopolitan Casino project. The developer and owner Ian Bruce Eichner is looking to find new investors, but the construction loan from Deutsche Bank of $760 million has fallen into default, putting the whole project at risk. The massive hotel and casino is still under construction at the moment, with a planned launch for 2009, which was pushed back from it's original 2008 opening. The project is located between the Bellagio casino resort and the CityCenter casino complex on the Las Vegas Strip, and was different in that about 3,000 hotel rooms were to be condo-hotels.

The image to the right is the newly announced MC1. According to its developers, the new model will be powered by a mid-engined 600hp V10 engine. The prototype sits lower than a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 and is also a little more narrow. It will sport 21-inch wheels and features a full carbon-fiber monocoque body with scissor-style doors. At its rear, the design sports a set of vertical taillights and matching vertically stacked exhaust pipes.
You can read a little more about the upcoming car over at Motor Authority HERE.
No word when the car will hit the market, let alone how much it will cost, but if it looks half as good as the above image, it should make quite a splash.

Set to open in London sometime in 2011 is a $40 million wave machine provides six-foot waves to surfers. The plan is to persuade surfers to take to their boards in Tower Hamlets rather than make the long drive to the West Country.Water sports enthusiasts will be charged a fee of $60-an-hour to urban surf.
Duncan Scott, 29, the chairman of the British Surfing Association and a professional surfer, said the urban sites have a future. "Everything about the experience is fake, but the fun is real," said Scott, who has tackled artificial waves in Japan and South Africa. "Some think high-performance surfing will only really develop when we can artificially replicate the same wave again and again allowing us to perfect manoeuvres which we can then take out into real waves. It won't replace ocean surfing but it will be a good stop-gap, especially if you have to take a gamble and drive five hours to Cornwall from London. You can very easily get there and find a howling onshore wind [which ruins the waves]."
