Callaway C16 Speedster to debut at Pebble Beach

Callaway Cars has announced it will unveil the C16 Speedster, the third and flagship model in the C16 lineup, on the concept lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, August 19, 2007.

The new C16 Speedster has a topless cockpit with twin wind deflectors and extended headrests, making it more open aired than a regular convertible. The Speedster has the same supercharged, intercooled, 6.2L all-alloy hand-built powerplant that pumps out 700hp and 660lb-ft of torque, that will get you from 0 to 60 in an estimated 3.2 seconds, with a max speed of over 210 mph. Overall handling and road feel is transmitted by a newly developed Callaway/Eibach Multi-Pro coil-over suspension system. This joint development effort produced an advanced spring/damper system, featuring 10-position compression and rebound adjustability, allowing the driver to customize settings for specific road conditions.

The Callaway C16 Speedster will be available for purchase in the Fall of 2007 and starts at $305,000 USD.

Your Own Action Figure

This would make an unique gift for someone, or maybe just a really great voodoo doll of your boss. Hero Builders will take a picture of someone, and make custom action figure for them, complete with clothes, other accessories . They can even make them say something if you want.

There's a bunch of examples on the site, and although it's a little expensive for your own mini-me, the process seems pretty painless. You just need to send them some photos, and they'll get to work. You also get to approve the figure before after the head is sculpted, so you'll know what your getting and how good it will look.

You can look through some of the past figures, pricing, and so on at the site HERE

Whisky Woodchips Barbecue

A distillery in Scotland, the Tullibardine Distillery is selling wood chips for smoking meat and fish. The chips are made by chopping up Tullibardine Distillery's used oak casks. The barrels previously contained 12 year old whisky, before having been reincarnated into smoking woodchips. The chips are said to impart a subtle whisky flavor. They sell for £5.00 plus postage and packaging and are only available in the UK but you can get a similar experience by using Jack Daniels chips made from the oak casks the sour mash is aged in. These sell for just under $10.

Porsche 911 Turbo SP580 by Sportec

Tuners just can't get enough of the 997 Turbo, with a list so far including SpeedART, TechArt, Edo, Rinspeed, and 9ff. That latter tuner even rings three bells by winning the HP competition, the top speed run, and being a convertible. The Swiss modifier fiddles with the ECU, swaps out the stock turbos for its own units, installs a high-flow exhaust, new air filter, and a strengthened clutch. Sportech also adds hi-po brakes with 6-pot calipers, a sports suspension, and a new front spoiler and rear wing — and some hot wheels. Then it tunes the entire thing in four stages: from a 530-hp Stage 1 package to a 580-hp Stage 4 time-bender that digs holes in the road with 564-lb-ft of torque. Top speed is 210 mph.

Wine Helps Kill Bad Oral Bacteria

Wine Sepctator has a new article that says that recent research at the University of Pavia in Italy has found that both white wine and red wine may help prevent the proliferation of streptococci, a type of bacteria associated with cavities, tooth decay and sore throats.

Oral strains of streptococci are responsible for the formation of dental plaque which, if left unchecked, can lead to cavities and periodontal disease. In the throat, these strains cause the burning, red inflammation known as strep throat. "Our findings seem to indicate that wine can act as an effective antimicrobial agent," in the mouth and throat, said the study's authors, led by Maria Daglia, a researcher at the University's Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The study was published in the July 11 issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Just another good reason that you should drink wine.
